Sorry, for the weeks without news, I've been really busy! This post was supposed to be published yesterday but I totally forgot! So there it is now:

Today it's my birthday, I'm finally turning 21 and as usual I'm not very excited. Don?t missunderstand me, it doesn't have anything to do with me not wanting to get older. I just dont like my birthday. When I was a little girl I was excited about my big day for weeks in advance, and when the day arrived I was sad because I had nothing to look forward to anymore. I have to admit very little has changed since then:)

Anyway this shouldn't be a sad post! Let me think of something nicer to write about...
As I told you I'm now 21, but that doesn't spare me of being asked if I'm over 16 when ordering a Gin&Tonic. In fact I really look more like a 15 year old girl who looks older, than like a 21 year old who looks a bit girlish. Everybody says I should be happy about my young appearance, because when I'm 30 I'ill still look like a 25 year old. Perhaps I will, but for now, it really sucks.
I really don't understand women who don't want to tell their age. I'ts ridiculous, they should be proud of it and make the best of what they have. And by that I dont mean plastic surgery! Hell no!
In my opinion every age has its specific elegance and charme. At each age your body and beauty looks different. Of course there will come the day when we look in the mirror and we realize that the youth has left us, but why try to recover it by any means and look ridiculous instead of being appropriate, elegant and gracious at every age?? There are so many beatiful women in their 50s,60s,70s and 80s who have learned how to enhance their beauty with the passing of time. Take for instance the beautiful Audrey Hepburn.

The only important thing is to take care of the nutrition, the skin, the exercises etc knowing that time passes by leaving some marks but they only make you more interesting. And feeling good with who you are, because this is what people around you will see.

That and of course dressing appropriately, nobody wants to see a 50year old wearing the same things as a 20year old, sorry madonna, although you really look younger than you are.

Where necessity ends: the future of the luxury industry

"We are fine, so far…" and the sales assistant of the Louis Vuitton store on Berlin's main shopping street, turns around and touches wood, being conscious of the crisis in this sector.

"We've been lucky, and we didn’t have to put our shop in sale, but raised the prices twice this year", she adds.

The French brand that belongs to the number one group in luxury goods LVMH, is one of the fortunate ones that are able to survive this difficult time. It has known how to sell its image by bringing up new lines of accessories, jewellery, watches or perfumes, which provide the biggest incomes.

It seems that when there is no money to reward oneself with a Chanel bag, the firms have discovered that the client compensates himself with the lip stick of the two embraced "C".

But there are not many fashion houses that can practice this concept, and hence confront the crisis with less wastage. This is the case of little labels with only one clothing line, or even of the classic "maison" like Lacroix.

From 2000 women in the world, who bought "haute couture", today there are barely 200, most of them Russian or Arabian millionaires. In 1945 there were more than 100 houses of high-end fashion, now reduced to less than 10, as it happened to Christian Lacroix, who had to announce his insolvency in June.

Another example of the cadaver that the global financial crisis is leaving behind is the biggest German luxury fashion producer, Escada, who declared itself insolvent in August 2009, after years dealing with financial problems. It has to be seen if the Indian steel magnate Mittal, who has bought the brand, is able to reanimate it.

But where some loose, others win. "Low cost" brands like Zara that belongs to the Spanish group Inditex, and the Swedish H&M seem to be the “winners” of this crisis, as far as it is possible to call it like that. Women, who now and then could afford an Armani skirt, now have to think about it twice and finally buy the copy by Zara.

This is the success of these brands: Zara is able to produce the same Prada blouse within 8 days, using good materials and designs, but in huge amounts. Thus, the production is much cheaper. Also, it has found the way of presenting itself as a superior range. This has been noticed by all the people who practice the "mix&match" technique (combining design with cheaper basics), and even Vogue magazine. Not long ago, it was completely impossible to find in it something beyond 200 euros, but now they even explain how to copy a Gucci look at low price.

And the crisis is not always negative. "It is horrible, but healthy, economy was out of control, and something had to happen" explained the German designer Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel, who had to fire 200 employees at the begining of last year. The Italian Donatella Versace told that she sees in it "a huge opportunity for creativity in this sector". The designer Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana believe that the crisis has put and ending to "the uncontrolled euphoria" to sell the most expensive piece. "We had lost reality", says Dolce.

But what do the survivors in order to survive? The most visible (and beneficent for the client) are the sales. In Spain they even started before Christmas, and are now at 70%. The Swedish COS that belongs to H&M has reduced the prices repeatedly during the past year, like other brands that used any excuse to invite their clients to special discounts.

In New York some designers have drawn back their fashion shows from the official location of the upcoming Fashion Week. Costing about half a million per show, it is really quite a saving. There even are some who have cancelled their participation, and, like Viktor&Rolf, opted for offering the show via the Internet. Marc Jacobs, creative director of Louis Vuitton, has not organized his traditional Christmas party, promotional voyages are being ceased, and expenses on publicity reduced.

The specialist in style and fashion, Carmen Fuentes affirms that aside the absence of money, in some cases the bad conscience is an important factor in the fall of the sales. "The Koplowitz sisters, for example, always used to buy high-end fashion but, now, although they have the same earnings, they feel ashamed when spending 30.000 Euro in a handmade dress in Paris, while there are people suffering".

But in this situation I can’t help but wonder: What is the future of the world of fashion? What will be left of the luxury sector? The fashion industry employs so many thousands of families that imagining its absence seems difficult. "I think that luxury is an timeless and civilizing concept, and a factor of the cultural growing for society. Although it has always suffered under difficult periods, it has survived them. We believe it will do so this time".

This is the opinion of Melinda d'Eliassy, external relations director of Chanel, who sees in it "the reflection of an epoch, sometimes of ostentation, sometimes austerity, modesty or discretion".

The general director of Hermès Spain, Beatriz Gonzalez Cristobal, adds that luxury will outlast time, with or without crisis: "as far as we understand Luxury in our house, it is a intimate concept". She talks about the smell of a good perfume, the sound of the leather when opening an organizer, the pleasure of caressing cachemire wool. "I do not think that any of this is temporal, because they are values that do not know the crisis".

This is a concept, which Coco Chanel explained to be "not the contrary of poverty, but of vulgarity", but that clearly varies during different times. Besides "by the time that everything turns back to normal, the woman who wore Dior, will do so again", indicates Fuentes. "People like spoiling themselves no and then, and when they have tasted luxury, they won't renounce to it fully".

Finally! Last day!

We had Frida Weyer, Michael Sontag, IC! Berlin, Chaya, some italian designers and the danish Stine Goya today. But, what I wanted to tell you about is the Michalsky show last night: The Michalsky Style Nite at Friedrichstadt Palast Berlin.

The night started with lovely Lala Berlin, inspired by solidarity and workmanship. She presented a high-contrast silhouette in grey and earthy tones.

The young designers of Kaviar Gauche followed with erotic charisma and tough elegance, leather, silk and metalic details.

Last but not least was Michael Michalsky, who had the stage rebuilt for his show. His vision for next winter? uncomplicated models made special.

Day Nrº 3

Still cold, still snowy, still Fashion Week.

The day started with a homemade breakfast by René Lezard, followed by Arrondisement Aq1, another breakfast by Schacky and Jones, Stefan Eckert, Hausach Couture, Kilian Kerner and Strenesse Blue.

Michalsky, the lovely Lala Berlin and Kaviar Gauche will present their collection offsite.

The coolest show today was, without a doubt, the one from Marcel Ostertag! SO feminine and sensual, elegant and simple. Just great! A lot of black and nude, only some touches of red and orange, beautiful transparencies, drappées, feathers, fur and elaborated volumes. Long long dresses are in again! Very romantic!

Also, we should start working out, because next F/W we are supposed to wear suspenders, only suspenders! Well, not only, but they definitely should be seen.

You see, I've fallen in love with this great collection, which shows that elegance and simplicity always win. (aaand that black IS always great!)

Well, the last 30 minutes of day nrº 2. I´m exhausted. I had planned on showing you all the pictures of today´s shows, but I don't know if I'm going to get through with it.

The day started with Anja Gockel' s show, I'm not a huge fan, I admit. Perret&Schaad, mongrels in common, Rena Lange, ALLUDE, Custo Barcelona, Patrick Mohr and Boss Black followed.

Custo's show was really great and colorful, with a lot of fun fake fur, inside-out coats, and really beautiful gemstone applications.

Oh, but not everything "shines" (ergo is pretty) at Fashion Week, specially when it comes to the Patrick Mohr show! I´m so angry at him! His collection was like a slap in the face. You know the debate about WHAT IS ART???

Well, in this case, I ask myself: WTF IS FASHION???

The story of how I fell in love with a shoe

I admit the title should be "The stories of how I fell in love with many shoes", but I like to treat each of my lovers as if he was the one and only.

So, yesterday I found this great picture taken by Scott Schuman in Milano, and I immediately lost my heart to these lovely light pink/salmon sandals worn by Anna dello Russo (fashion director at Vogue Nippon).

For the last 24 hours I haven't been able to sleep nor eat, I just kept dreaming about a life with them by my side. What a lucky girl would I be!

My conclusion is: when I'm older I want to be a milanese girl!

The time has almost arrived

It is supposed to be the best night of the year, but it never really is:
New Year’s Eve
Anyway, the outfit you wear should at least make the attempt to be the best of the past year (hopefully not of the one to come!)

Therefore, it has to be picked out many days in advance. Here are some advices uou should follow when planning what you are going to wear:

1. The Outfit:
This should be the first thing on which you should decide. Remember: New Year’s Eve is always about black, gold, silver, shiny materials, metallic applications, strass and paillettes, transparencies and my favourite: feathers!
Of course, you don’t have to stick to the classics, but come on, when else can you wear a micro black paillettes dress with huge shoulder pads, a latex leggings, 15cm plateau-ankle boots of golden patent leather and feathers on your head, without somebody judging you? Besides, it’s fun!
When you have decided on the dress or equivalent, the next step should be:

2. The Shoes:
I anticipated it already: they should be exaggerated and unreasonably high, BUT – and here comes the difficult part – as comfortable as possible, because you’ll have to wear them at least 8 hours, and don’t forget about all the dancing…

Anyway, if it comes to the worst, make sure you have some blister band-aid in your lovely miu miu clutch.

Also, don’t be stupid and believe me, there is no greater feeling as walking home barefoot after a long dancing night…

3. Don’t eat too much over the holidays! Who knows what effect it could have on your tight latex overall…

4. Think of your make-up, make a test before the big night and be sure it suits you and matches the dress.

5. Try your hairstyle in advance, you know, we all hate ugly surprises…

6. Don’t forget about the red underwear! In my opinion it’s a very sweet tradition and it’s always a nice surprise! You never know what can happen ;)

Make sure you can’t see it trough your outfit, in case it’s not on purpose. And remember everything should fit well, many people seem to forget this little and obvious fact quite often..

7. On December 31st in the morning:
Eyebrows, Nails, Waxing etc. A nice extra: false eyelashes – very Lady Gaga!

8. Have fun! Even if your hair’s a mess, the dress too tight and you look ridiculous with your feather boa, make sure you have someone to kiss at midnight and enjoy the last night of the year, because guess what? Next year there will be another one, where you can be gorgeous!

I'm quite tolerant when it comes to commenting other people's outfits, in general. In my opinion "Elegance" and "Style" are broad terms, than can be understood in many ways depending on the cultural and historical context.

Nevertheless, there are people who really max out the limits of fashion...

To those I suggest to consider not wearing anything, for example like the girls in this video.

One more reason for loving Madrid

A couple of days ago I showed you the picture of my latest love: the pink Proenza Schouler bag at eks in Madrid.

It is a really unhappy, unfullfilled love, given the price is far above my posibilities (but of course worth every penny or cent).

At this point let me come to the explanation of the title of today's post:

I found a beatiful copy of the bag, completely legal and in black. Ok, black isn't as half as cool as pink, but to pay only 10% of the original price is reason enough to be unfaithful...

My new love stands in the window of Uterqüe, a spanish brand which belongs to Inditex (Zara, Oysho, Massimo Dutti among others) and specially focuses on high quality accesories and a small selection of clothes. Isn't it beautiful???

The one on Christmas Eve

Lately my sister has been complaining about her not being in a Christmas mood. It's true. This year you hardly realize it's Christmas.

Here in Madrid the weather is quite warm, no snow or freezing coldness, the past days have been very stressfull, but not in the typical "christmassy" way and we merely have decorated our apartment. Just to name some examples.

So, what brings the Christmas spirit into your everyday life?

The Red Shoes

At least since in 1948 the movie "The Red Shoes" came out, there has been something special about red shoes. They are so vivid, shinny and adorable (well, maybe only some of them) that you just want to bite them, even more if they are made of patent leather.

I remember, about 5 years ago I bought a pair of beautiful red ballerinas 2!!! sizes smaller than mine, because they were the last ones :)

Anyway, I happen to know that I'm not the only crazy girl here around who buys smaller shoes if they are too gorgeous to leave them behind...

What is there about women and (red) shoes???

I love men in white shirts!

And who doesn't? Men don't understand why, but every guy looks hot (or hotter) wearing a white shirt, and I think most women would agree with me.

Shirts in general make men's shoulders appear wider. They look bigger, BUT thinner, some of them even seem to have more muscles. Shirts can also help to cover a little belly or hypothetical love handles...

But why does it necessarily have to be white? Ok, I admit light blue shirts turn me on, aswell, but the white ones...they are just so clean and pure and sexy or elegant or casual. They are always appropriate and do always look good.

I think it is the same effect as in "The Girl with a Pearl Earring". The Pearls or in this case the white shirt illuminates the face in a very special way and makes it look brighter and in my opinion more beautiful.

Well, this is only my theory to explain this phenomenon to myself. But anyway who cares?

As far as I'm concerned I really don't need an explanation!

I just need men always to wear a white shirt!

You know, guys, you would make us very happy and as a consequence we would stop buying shoes compulsively only to calm our frustration:)

Oh, but now I see I made a mistake! I have to correct the caption, because:

My dear friend Lily once stated: “This tastes like Christmas in my mouth!”, when eating the supposedly best burger in New York City.

That might sound exaggerated, but I swear this is the same phrase I think of every time I take a little bite of the apple-cinnamon star from the german grocer’s delicatessen shop Lindner ( www.lindner-esskultur.de ).

Why? Well, the reason is, because it truly tastes like Christmas in my mouth!

Yesterday I went to watch "New Moon" with my family and my beloved boyfriend (who happens to look like Robert, by the way). I was a little bit disappointed by the first 90 minutes, but on the contrary highly pleased by the last part.

All the tension, the fights and the great wolves that scared me a lot to be honest:) Oh and I also remember vaguely an incredible body...

Furthermore, I really loved the little italian village, the people wearing their lovely red capes and of course Edward, although he looked much better in the first movie.

Also, can anybody explain to me why Bella is always so terribly sad (AND awfully dressed)???

Anyways, what I want to hear is, how did you like the movie?

I want your ugly, I want your disease

In a world ruled by flawless beauty and perfect bodies, it's no wonder that now and then we NEED to add a little bit of "ugly" to our lives.

This time Lady Gaga helps me to prove my theory.

Take for instance her latest video "Bad Romance", go to minute 3,27 and zoom on to her feet.

Have you ever seen such horrible shoes??? They literally scare me!!!

They look abnormal and they make her legs and feet appear like animal paws. Human feet were never supposed to look like that...

But you know what? I love them!

They are so ugly that they seem extremely cool. By the way, the same happens to chihuahuas (they look like dead puppies), nerd glasses (the name speaks for itself), last season's harem trousers(seriously, we all know what they really look like), and let us be honest, the whole 80's style (we like it so much exactly because it breaks all fashion and good taste rules).

It is an aesthetic or, I should better say, antiaesthetic phenomenon that is more than necessary in our beauty-queen reigned society. Even if it's only for our mental balance.

So at this place, once more, thanks Lady Gaga, for testing our aesthetic limits. Even if your name might sound inapropriate when talking about mental health...

By the way congratulations on the video, it's a real masterpiece!

Anyway, back to Alexander McQueen' s pain to the eye (although Monsieur Louboutin already delighted us with a similiar creation last year), tell me,

If you're looking for the best waffles in town, your search is over. In the little café Napoljonska, situated in the district of Prenzlauer Berg you can taste not only wonderful waffles with your favourite toppings, but also crepes and a small selection of homemade cakes and muffins.

It is without a doubt the sweetest corner in this huge and cold city, where for some minutes the world looks light pink and mint green.

So, today, let' s forget about our diet and visit Napoljonska!

Yesterday I went to the opening of F.C. Gundlach' exhibition in Berlin. It was really full of people, but considering some comments I couldn't help but hearing, they didn't like it a lot... Anyway, we wait for the reviewers to review. As far as I'm concerned, there were many nice pictures, but it was nothing like the great Demarchelier exhibition at the Petit Palais last year. Many of you may think: " Oh no, not someone else who thinks she has something to publish about fashion, we have enough useless bloggers!"

And you're right. There are so many new fashion blogs everyday, but it is impossible that all of them have something interesting to tell the world.

So first of all, I want to apologize for starting a new blog about the art of clothing. But after visiting The Sartorialist and Garance Doré twice a day and admiring their blogs more and more, I just couldn't resist to try it on my own.

I don't want to tell you what is "in" or "out". I don't want to tell you which belt to wear this season or which brand is "in fashion" this year. I'm not interested in suggesting you a new haircut, either.

All I want to do is showing you what I see. Extravagant outfits, interesting exhibitions, beautiful shoes, movies, songs, cities, etc. Anything I consider special and therefore want to share with you.

Because as a brave little tailor once said:

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

As you will see I'm a huge fan of mademoiselle chanel's quotes:)
